The devotional areas at the Shrine are
outdoors and along a sloped path that is about ½ mile from the beginning at
the Pilgrim Center to the Shrine Church. There are additional outdoor areas
(Rosary Walk and Stations of the Cross) sloping upwards on a path above the
Church. The entire path from the Pilgrim Center is paved, and there are
many benches along the way.
Visitors with children are cautioned to keep them on the path, as the
natural vegetation near the path may contain poison ivy.
With
the exception of assistance animals, pets are not allowed on the path
or in the Pilgrim Center.
We have limited use of electric golf
carts, which are driven by volunteers or staff. These carts are available
on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the limited number, they
are only available for transport to and from the Shrine Church. As much as
we would like to offer it, time and demand does not permit us exclusive use
of carts for personal tours.
Because the carts are battery powered and
require 8 hours to recharge, they are sometimes exhausted and unusable in
the late afternoon due to heavy demand. We are taking steps to limit their
use by able-bodied pilgrims in order to help remedy this concern. We ask
that only those needing assistance ride while others walk to the Shrine
Church.
There are also a number of wheelchairs
available, again on a first-come, first-served basis. These allow a more
leisurely look at the devotional areas, but must be accompanied by someone
at all times.
Restrooms, orientation room, gift shop and restaurant are all on the same
floor of the Pilgrim Center.
